Dear Readers,
We've said it before and this week, we are saying it again: The two biggest changes to the way we do personal purchases in the future have really started to gain traction. The first being the mobile or digital wallet (don't get them mixed up - they are NOT the same). The second being the ability by smaller retailers and even sole traders to take credit card payments through card reader dongles. These two elements alone change the way we will make and take payments in the future. That's what we at Contactless Intelligence believe, anyway.
So, it comes as no surprise that our favourite dongle provider - iZettle (we make that judgment on product - not personality), announced last week that they are now accepting American Express payments in Sweden and Finland (http://bit.ly/KMiTMi). It will only be a matter of time before this ripples out to other territories using iZettle. In the same week, VeriFone also announced that they re-vamped their card reader to take on Square (http://bit.ly/KMiM3p). Time will tell if this is a great move from VeriFone. They have already made real headway in incorporating their reader solutions into the higher end of the shopping experience (http://wp.me/p1Jrjn-BK) – be it in a store or on four wheels (we have a video coming out soon that will explain that cryptic remark) – but I guess they need to cover all bases. Even the Chinese are working on this angle with 99Bill announcing the release of their smartphone card reader to enable mobile payments in China (http://wp.me/p1Jrjn-C1). Seems you're no-one these days if you don't have a smartphone card reader.
In terms of the mobile wallet, there are a number of news items. Firstly, MasterCard launched their PayPass Wallet Services (http://wp.me/p1Jrjn-Be). Then DeviceFidelity, Inc. presented Moneto, which they call the world’s first multi-platform mobile wallet (http://bit.ly/IKRGsR) and finally American Express announced that they were moving forward on the Isis Mobile Wallet (http://wp.me/p1Jrjn-Ca). To finish off last week, we also heard rumours that Apple was testing mobile deals and payment systems in partnership with Pirq (http://bit.ly/JcuWEa), but to be honest, I have learnt not to comment on what Apple is doing. They'll do what they do and that's all there is to it…
The big news for us (and hopefully to you) is that C-ITV have started The Intelligence. You can see May's questions in the right hand column. It's a really, really, easy one this month and you do get to win a very, very cool iHelicopter that you can fly using you smartphone (iOS or Android). This page even has a little video to show you what it can do (http://wp.me/p1Jrjn-Bu). All YOU have to do is go here (http://bit.ly/JmPaMA), answer the questions and enter. And if you want to 'Like' us too, then we'd appreciate it as well. Either way, I hope you will have a go and even if you don't win - don't worry because there's more coming!
Until next week.
